Media Monday + In Search of Myself - Death, Part 1
May 13, 2024#MediaMonday - Seeing all the Aurora photos in my feed on Friday night/Saturday morning and then seeing the reactions (often negative) for the rest of the weekend, reminds me of another paradox I learned a long time ago.
The Paradox of Cool Hunting - Cool hunting involves finding what the 20% (the trendsetters) are doing in order to sell it to the other 80% (the followers). The paradox is that by doing so, it makes the original thing uncool and forces the 20% to move on to the next cool thing.
Something else I’ve been thinking about is why are moments like the Aurora and the Eclipse so magical? I think part of the reason is that they are shared experiences. A little like those “do you remember where you were when you heard about it?” moments. I think it’s because we crave these shared experiences. And, because our divided media landscape means we no longer share them there, we are awed by them when they happen in real life. There is a lesson in there somewhere.
Finally, something else we share is that we are all going to die. I posted my most recent “In Search of Myself” video a few days ago, but did not share the link. So here it is. It takes the piece I wrote on Death last week a little further. As more death appeared in my life after I wrote the original piece.
